THE MARIPOSA STORY…

Many of the ancient civilizations believed that butterflies were symbols of the human soul. In Irish mythology, the butterfly is said to be the spirit of the departed who return to visit their favorite place and their loved ones to reassure them they are alright.

The Butterfly “Kimimila” in Lakota, is a symbol of new beginnings, transition & beauty.

The Spanish word for butterly is “Mariposa” and finds its roots from the Virgin Mary- its literal meaning, “Maria Posing”- for the resemblance to her hands in prayer.

Immediately drawn to the Brazilian Paraibe Wings at a show in Tucson, SHEL fell in love with the butterfly effect of these Beauties and finally completed her after at least 10 sketches.
